A trailing stop loss that actually trails, while you are away from the screen.
Most trailing stops are a plan, not an order. You decide you will move the stop up if the trade works, and then the trade works while you are in a meeting. Ai4Trades turns the rule into something that runs: your stop follows price by the distance you set, on the broker account you already have.
What a trailing stop loss is
A trailing stop loss is a stop that moves in one direction only — up behind a long position, down behind a short one. You set a distance: so many rupees, so many percent, or a step size that only moves after price advances by a given amount. As price runs in your favour the stop follows at that distance. When price turns and reaches the stop, the exit order goes in.
Its purpose is not to make you money on the way up. It is to stop you giving back what you already made because you were not watching at the moment the move ended.
Why doing it by hand does not work
- It requires you to be watching. The move that needs your stop trailed is exactly the move that happens while you are driving, in a meeting, or asleep before a gap open.
- It requires you to be disciplined at the worst moment. Moving a stop by hand, in a fast move, is when hope talks you into leaving it where it is.
- A plain stop-loss order does not trail. Placed once, it sits at its original level all day while the trade doubles and comes back.
- Modifying an order repeatedly through a broker terminal is slow, and every modification is a chance to fat-finger the price or the quantity.
How it works on Ai4Trades
- 01Connect the broker you already useBring Your Broker: you keep your existing account and your existing brokerage plan. Funds and securities never leave your own broking and demat account, and we take nothing from your broker for the introduction.
- 02Set the trail where you can see the priceDraw the level on the chart or set it from the watchlist, order book, positions or holdings. The trail distance and method are part of the trade path you define, alongside entry, target and stop.
- 03Let it runThe rule watches tick-by-tick NSE and BSE data and moves the stop as your condition is met. Nothing needs you at the screen and nothing needs a browser tab left open.
- 04The exit goes to your brokerWhen price reaches the trailed stop, the order is transmitted to your broker for execution. You get a notification on the desk and on the phone.
It works on every surface, not just the chart
A trigger set on the chart, in the watchlist, from a screener result, on the order book, on a position or on a holding is the same trigger. That matters more than it sounds: the reason people stop using automation is that it lives in one corner of the product and the rest of the workflow does not reach it.
The same rules run in the Android and iOS apps, on the same account and the same broker connection, so a stop you set at the desk is the stop that is running when you are out.
What it cannot do
A trailing stop places an order when your condition is met. It does not guarantee the price you get. If the market gaps past your level, if the stock is in a circuit or a halt, if liquidity is thin, or if your broker rejects the order for margin or risk reasons, the exit happens at the price available or not at all.
Read the risk disclosure before you rely on any automated exit. Automation removes the delay between your decision and the order. It does not remove market risk.
Questions
Does the trailing stop keep working if I close the app?
Yes. The rule runs on our infrastructure against live NSE and BSE data, not in your browser. Closing the tab, closing the app or turning off your phone does not stop it.
Can I trail by percentage as well as by points?
Yes. You can set the trail as an absolute distance or as a percentage of price, and you can require price to advance by a step before the stop moves, so the stop does not creep up on every tick.
Which broker do I need?
The one you already use, if it is on the supported list. Ai4Trades never recommends a broker and never takes a share of your brokerage — you keep your account and your existing plan.
What does the trailing stop loss cost?
There is no platform fee for core usage. You pay your broker their normal brokerage and statutory charges, and nothing to us.
Can I test it without risking money?
Yes. Paper trading runs the same trail rules against live market data with simulated orders, so you can watch how a trail behaves before any capital is involved. Paper results are not a forecast of live results.
